Accounting Myth Busters
If you think accounting is all crunching numbers and staring at spreadsheets — think again! MassCPAs is here to bust those myths and show you how becoming an accountant can unlock a career with unlimited earning potential (and some serious cha-ching 💸).
"Accounting is boring."
Actually, accounting is an ever-evolving business with a lot of avenues. Forensic accounting (yes, that’s a thing), for example. You’re basically a CSI investigator uncovering unsavory schemes and bad business. You’re literally chasing bad guys down a digital trail and saving the day.
"AI will replace accountants."
Nope, but it does make life as an account a lot more efficient and frees up time to focus on things AI can’t handle, like building relationships with potential clients. It’s all about the people skills!
"Accountants work in windowless offices."

While some may be math whizzes, it’s not a requirement. If you’re a natural problem solver who likes working with people and making great money — accounting is a perfect fit! Although accountants do work with numbers, there are no complex calculations you need to do yourself — that’s what Excel is for! In a nutshell, accountants problem-solve, analyze data, and help businesses make decisions.

are the boots on the ground in high schools across Massachusetts and are the future leaders in the accounting world. They serve as MassCPAs' representatives, spreading the word about the exciting, diverse career paths available to accounting majors.
These students already have a leg up on an exciting career, and we can help you get there, too! If you're interested in business or finance or need guidance in finding your path from high school to college, reach out. We're here to set students up for success, help them with scholarship opportunities and more!
