Meet the New Chair of the ERISA Committee
May 18, 2023
The ERISA Accounting and Auditing Committee encourages and supports the unique needs of Society members who perform ERISA/Department of Labor (DOL) audits, including 401K, 403B and health and welfare plans.
We spoke with new co-chair Jamie Tong-Chow, CPA, audit managing director at tonneson + co, to learn about her background, why she wanted to get involved and her goals for the committee. To learn more, click here.
What changes have you seen in the accounting profession?
Since I became a CPA in 2004, some of the significant changes include the CPA Exam, the development of new technology and how we interact with clients. We now have many different tools and software applications to perform more efficiently, allowing us to become increasingly more involved in other key business areas. Accountants do not simply work with numbers, we also advise on strategic business decisions. With the different platforms available, we’ve also improved our communications with our clients and can share more valuable information with them. The accounting profession will continue to evolve and change, and I feel that as a CPA, it is essential to keep an open mind and embrace these changes.
What inspired you to become co-chair?
The committee has been a wonderful place for me to connect with other members and share experiences and ideas. The Society is an excellent organization and has provided an enormous amount to the profession. Being co-chair is an incredible opportunity to increase my involvement and support MassCPAs in giving back to its members.
What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
To increase the number of meetings we have and get more firms and members involved. I look forward to working with my co-chair Shawn Huxley, CPA, on the annual Employee Benefit Plan Conference to continue providing valuable information and resources to members.
