Faced with poor revenue collections in the second half of the last fiscal year, state budget writers and finance officials lowered the tax revenue estimate for fiscal year 2017 by $629 million before enacting the fiscal 2017 budget. Tax collections over the second half of fiscal 2016 continually fell shy of benchmarks, creating uncertainty as the administration and Legislature developed a budget for fiscal 2017.

The Internal Revenue Service has created a new webpage with information to help people who participate in the so-called “sharing economy” get timely tax advice. The new webpage provides information to help individuals meet their tax compliance obligations, including filing requirements, estimated tax payments, self-employment taxes, depreciation and other topics.
