[BOSTON, MA] June 21, 2018 —The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), the professional association for CPAs in the state, today announced that Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the organization, was named to the list of Most Powerful Women in Accounting by CPA Practice Advisor and the American Institute of CPAs for the second year in row. The Brookline resident was recognized for her contributions to the accounting industry, specifically her efforts to increase diversity.
The award is given annually to 25 women leaders who are helping to define and advance the accounting profession.
Pitter is working with accounting firms in Massachusetts to recognize that diversifying the workforce is a priority that will only happen through deliberate, continuous effort. To support this priority, the MSCPA expanded its youth outreach to two different summer programs that introduce diverse young people to the profession. Pitter has also enhanced the MSCPA’s Educational Foundation, which awards college scholarships to young people studying accounting, with an emphasis on diverse populations.
“I am very proud to be named among these incredible women,” said Pitter. “My goal is to work with our members to show the value of diversity, not only in workplace culture but its impact on the bottom line. It’s an honor to be recognized by a national group for this important work.”
All the nominees for the award are a driving force in creating a culture of innovation or excellence within their firm, or helped, as a vendor, to develop technologies that empower firms to be more productive and profitable. The winners have reached a level of management and ownership within their company, with demonstrable impact on its success, and are actively mentoring those following in their footsteps.
Winners were announced at the AICPA ENGAGE conference on June 9 in Las Vegas.
