Seniors face issues that complicate return preparation and planning. When to apply for social security? How is it taxed? What if they continue to work? Will an increased standard deduction affect charitable planning? Will downsizing affect interest and property tax deductions and payments? How to help children or grandchildren pay for a home or a college education?? We'll explore these questions and more.

Engagement quality is the ultimate benchmark that auditors should be judged against. As a senior associate, you have primary responsibility for ensuring that all engagement work is performed on time, within budget, and in accordance with professional standards. Unfortunately, recent peer review results have shown us that our engagement quality is not always what it should be. In this session, we will review the current status of the AICPA's Enhancing Audit Quality initiative by reviewing recent results from peer reviews and points of focus for upcoming peer reviews. The session will review common sources of identified peer review deficiencies, relevant guidance related to these deficiencies and suggestions for how to improve engagement quality. In this scavenger hunt game, you're a tax associate at Surging CPAs, LLC. It's the busy time of year, and you arrive at work to find an urgent assignment in your inbox from your senior manager, Caroline. Another colleague suddenly quit, and Caroline needs help finishing the tax return today for the client, Jasper Jones, a small business owner. Jasper does not want to file an extension. You're asked to jump in and help complete the Schedule C, which is the only remaining form to complete the return.

Financial accounting can be complex. An integral part of a senior associate's job responsibilities is to perform effective and efficient research using the FASB's Accounting Standards Codification (ASC). In this session, participants will be introduced to the ASC, including how it is structured, organized, and updated. They will also learn about other information that can be accessed from the ASC. Next, the session will cover best practices for effective research using the ASC, including the ASC's search functionality and other tools that will make accounting research easier to perform.
