Dear Elizabeth, This week proved to be a very busy and interesting one. On Monday, I joined state society CEOs and leadership at the AICPA’s
Regional Council meeting in New York City. AICPA president and CEO Barry Melancon provided us with an update on issues from the Department of Labor
report, to trends in the profession such as the flattening pipeline, mergers and acquisitions, disruptive technology and globalization. We
participated in round-table discussions on risks, opportunities and implications for the profession, and another round-table on fair value
measurements for financial statements. I encourage all of you to read and comment on the concept paper on enhancing audit quality.
We’ve just finished the first full week of spring and you know what
that means—April 15th is right around the corner! Have a great weekend. Beth Lyons, CAE

MSCPA Leads Request for Independent Contractor Fix The MSCPA authored a formal request on behalf of a coalition of
business and professional associations to request action on legislation to amend the state’s independent contractor law, a copy of which can be
found here. The letter, which was addressed to Senate President
Stan Rosenberg and House Speaker Robert DeLeo, cited the adverse impacts on the Commonwealth’s employers and the workforce, economic development
and job growth as the impetus for the request. If you would like to help us in our efforts to change this law, consider joining our Key Person Program or contact MSCPA government affairs director Zach Donah.
