CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,

This week, MassCPAs’ executive and Board leadership and volunteers met with the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation and their staff to discuss pressing issues in accounting. At the top of the list was addressing the current service levels at the IRS, and how certain businesses that target CPAs flood all IRS phone lines and exacerbate the inability to connect with a live IRS representative.

Our government affairs team has been in touch with the U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means on this, and they are looking into the issue. But 11,000 voices are stronger than one – and we need your input. Please take this brief survey before Sunday, October 31, to help us better understand the severity of the issues you experience with the IRS. Our team will use these results to advocate on your behalf. We understand and share your frustrations, and we will keep you posted on any developments.

For a summary of the other topics we discussed, check out this week’s Legislative Brief. Thank you to Rob Miller, CPA, CFE, MassCPAs board chair and managing partner of Stone & Company, LLC; Julie Quink, CPA, CFE, MassCPAs board member and managing principal of Burkhart, Pizzanelli, PC; and Leanne Scott, JD, LL.M, senior manager at Baker Newman Noyes (BNN), who joined us throughout the week to represent MassCPAs and the Massachusetts accounting profession.

On a similar note, we are looking for your feedback on your membership – what do you love and how can we better support you? Please join me next Wednesday, November 3, at 8:30 a.m. for a Virtual Listening Tour to discuss how we can improve your experience. You can register for free here. Please submit questions and topics of interest in advance to me. I look forward to hearing from you!

Have a great weekend!
