CEO Corner
|
Dear Hannah,
If you are a parent, grandparent, student or teacher, you know that this academic year comes complete with confusion, disruption and plenty of other changes. The only thing that hasn’t changed is that college is still expensive and the cost can be a barrier to many students who aspire to a career in accounting.
Our Educational Foundation offers students support to make it easier for them to stay in school, compete their degrees and join the profession. We do this entirely through the generosity of our members. Firms of all sizes provide the bulk of scholarship money with sponsorships ranging from $500 from small firms to $10,000 from some of our global partners. We made a few changes to the scholarship program last year and now, with such uncertainty in 2020, your donation will help students more than ever before.
Donations can be made here on our website. Firm leaders received our emails this week asking for their support this year—? please respond as generously as you can. Individual donations, of any size, round out our program and allow us to offer even more scholarships to deserving students. If all our members each gave only $10, we would almost double our scholarships!
Your continued support not only helps fill firms with qualified staff, but it also makes a huge difference in the lives of students who rely on scholarship support. And these students need your help now more than ever. One of last year’s scholarship winners said it best:
“It has not been easy to afford books, meals and other expenses from just my work study pay. This scholarship will make my transition from undergrad to grad school much, much smoother. Again, I would like to thank you all for your generosity. It not only helps students like me dream but also achieve.”
—Ishimwe Nadine Uwase, University of Massachusetts Lowell, Class of 2022, 2020 MSCPA College Diversity & Inclusion: Black/African American Scholarship Recipient
Please click here to donate and to learn more about the levels of sponsorship. Alternatively, you can contact Erica DeBiase at 617.303.2403 to make your contribution over the phone or mail a check to the Society, made payable to the MSCPA Educational Foundation.
I wish all of you a wonderful weekend and, for those who celebrate, a healthy and happy new year. Shana Tova!
