CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,
There’s no denying the last few months have been full of change. Throughout this time, we’ve worked with members to help them navigate the road ahead, and to be successful, one thing has remained constant: the need for increased diversity in the accounting profession.
Research from McKinsey shows that teams with more diversity outperform less diverse teams, and they’re also more profitable. While leaders understand the business case, achieving diversity continues to be a challenge in our profession. Minorities are underrepresented across the industry, and the gap widens as careers progress from college enrollments to C-suite or partnership roles.
A lack of diversity in accounting prevents us from resolving staffing issues and retaining top performers and future leaders. This problem is not exclusive to Massachusetts; it’s industry-wide, and we need your help to move us forward.
I’m excited to announce the MSCPA has partnered with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and other state CPA societies to launch a short survey to help us better understand the role of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I). This will help us identify actions needed to improve DE&I in the profession across the U.S. The results will help us create strategies for firms and companies of all sizes, and ultimately, move the profession forward.
Responses will remain strictly confidential and will be analyzed only after being combined with the responses of all other participants. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please feel free to contact me at apitter@mscpaonline.org.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Amy Pitter
