CEO Corner
|
Dear Hannah,
What an exciting week! I'm thrilled to announce that we're launching a new early college academy at Haverhill High School this September. The academy is a four-course accounting track that allows interested students to earn up to 12 college credits at UMass Lowell. It is the first accounting-focused, early college initiative in Massachusetts, and our goal is to see it spread across high schools in the Commonwealth and eventually across the country.
The MSCPA drove the initial coordination; working with NAF, Haverhill High School and UMass Lowell and forming a 10-person board to help develop the academy. As part of our efforts to fuel the accounting pipeline with qualified and diverse talent, the academy is also a means to open the door to the profession to students of all backgrounds and cultures, in addition to offering an educational benefit.
Because students in their junior and senior years are typically contemplating career choices and navigating their way through their suitable interests, we believe that timing is key, and the result could be a lifetime of career fulfillment for these young professionals.
For more information about the academy, please visit our website. The training and startup costs are funded by the MSCPA's Educational Foundation whose goal is to support and inspire the next generation of CPAs in Massachusetts. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
