CEO Corner
|
Dear Hannah,
As many of you know, the AICPA Council voted last spring to open the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential to "Other Qualified Professionals" who are not CPAs. While the AICPA has presented their justification for the expansion, believing that it will lead to greater consistency in valuations, the move has not been well received by many of our members.
I discussed this matter with our Board of Directors who agreed that the move not only devalues the credential for current CPAs with the ABV designation, but it also has the effect of diluting the CPA brand.
The MSCPA always has, and always will, act in the best interest of our membership, and we take your comments very seriously. Since an important part of our mission is to build the CPA brand, we decided to provide formal feedback to the AICPA expressing our concerns. We also requested for the AICPA to review their decision-making process to ensure that all stakeholders have an opportunity to be heard in an open and transparent process. A copy of our letter to the AICPA can be found here.
The letter was submitted to the AICPA yesterday, and I will keep you informed on any developments. Thank you to all our members who provided feedback on this issue.
Have a great weekend!
Amy Pitter
MSCPA President/CEO
