CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,

As you know, driving a more diverse, equitable and inclusive profession is a priority at the Society. Our work is ongoing, and I am excited to share two important updates that are the result of our efforts:
  1. Early College High School Academy Expansion
Building on the success of our programs in Haverhill and Chicopee, the Society recently committed $25,000 to Middlesex Community College to support the expansion of our Early College High School Academy over the next five years. Upon completion of the program, students will earn up to 12 college credits through Middlesex Community College at no additional cost.

One of the indicators that students will pursue accounting is awareness from a young age, but those from diverse communities are not often exposed to the profession. Scaling our Academy allows these students to learn about accounting careers, and it will help us build a robust and diverse pipeline of future CPAs.

  2. Customized DEI Trainings
Getting diverse entrants into the profession is only half the battle – keeping them is the other part. Diverse talent will leave accounting firms if they don’t feel included or have opportunities to advance to leadership positions. To address this, we partnered with The Diversity Movement and Jina Etienne, CPA, CGMA of Etienne Consulting, to deliver personalized DEI trainings to our members. Thanks to a recent update to the State Workforce Training Express Fund, firms/companies who work with us can attend these trainings at a reduced rate or even for free. For details, contact Julia Ekelund at jekelund@mscpaonline.org.
We are committed to making a difference in Massachusetts, and I am confident that our continued efforts will make accounting a magnet for the best talent in the country — and help all our members learn, connect and prosper.

Have a great weekend!
