CEO Corner
renew

Dear Hannah,

I am very happy to announce that I've been asked to sit on a working group convened by Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka, and chaired by Senator Adam Hinds, Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Revenue, to develop recommendations for a simplified and modernized tax system in the Commonwealth. The working group consists of 21 appointees, including representatives of business, unions, academics and other advocacy groups, which should make for some interesting conversations! You can read more about it here.

This appointment will provide a great opportunity for the accounting profession and the Society to be heard during this important process.  We will be considered the experts in identifying pain points, anachronisms, inconsistencies and complications in the current system as well as serving as the voice of reason as the issues are discussed. The Society was not at the table during similar legislative exercises in the past, including the Tax Fairness and Tax Expenditure Commissions, reflecting our commitment and growing influence with the legislature and the administration. That commitment continues to grow, especially with the addition of our newest staff member, Larry Liuzzo, the MSCPA's Government Affairs Manager, who will help champion our advocacy initiatives.

The working group is slated to review the code over a two-year period and I'll keep you posted as things develop. In the meantime, I'd love your feedback. Please fill out this short survey to assist our team in better representing you!

Have a great weekend!
