CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,
I was thrilled to be part of a large Massachusetts contingent at the AICPA's Spring Council Meeting last week. Our advocacy team was joined by board chair
John Micalizzi
of RSM US LLP; chair-elect
John Colucci, Esq., CPA of McLane Middleton; newly-appointed board member
Carol Ruiz, CPA
of PwC LLP;
Julie Quink, CPA
of Burkhart Pizzanelli PC; and past board chairs Rich Caturano, CPA, CGMA
of RSM US LLP,
Carla McCall, CPA CGMA
of AAFCPAs,
Mark Nichols, CPA, MBA, MST
of Mark W, Nichols CPA PC and
Margery Piercey, CPA, CGMA
of Mass Insight Education & Research.
Almost all the talk at Council revolved around the top issues facing the profession – how will we change as our clients' and companies' needs change in response to technology, globalization and an uncertain world? What can we do now to prepare students to be successful CPAs in this new landscape? There was a lot of great conversation around these and many other topics, and I'd love to come visit firms for a Professional Issues Update, where I'll cover this and discuss ways the MSCPA can help
your firm as the profession changes (and offer one CPE credit!). To book your visit, please contact me at apitter@mscpaonline.org.
Another highlight of Council were our Hill visits, where we met with members of our congressional delegation to give our perspective on issues facing the profession, and to ask for their help. Our priority was to ask that the IRS be appropriately funded and modernized with a specific practitioner unit, so they can help CPAs and their clients correctly meet tax requirements. We remain the IRS' top partner in voluntary compliance, but right now, they are not helping us do our job. Stay tuned as this
develops!
Lastly,
MSCPA dues renewals are due today, May 31.
If you have not already done so, click here to renew your MSCPA membership. We love having you in our community, and we want you to continue to receive exclusive networking and learning opportunities, plus member-only benefits and discounted CPE. If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Curtis at acurtis@mscpaonline.org or call 617.556.4000.
Have a great weekend!
