Dear Hannah,
There has been much discussion about Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) and what it means for both employers and employees. You should be aware that the state has extended the employer notice requirements from May 31 to June 30, 2019. The state also extended the deadline for the Q1 exemption for private plans from June 30 to September 20, 2019. Here is the announcement, which includes more details on each of the extensions. Additional information about PFML can be found on our website at mscpaonline.org/pfml.
In Society news, this was a big week! On Wednesday, we celebrated the new membership year at our Annual Meeting & Networking Reception at the stunning Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton. It was a spectacular evening complete with networking, welcoming our new Board and Chairman John Micalizzi of RSM, recognizing new CPAs and a presentation from the CEO and managing partner of Nixon Peabody. This event also kicked off our Year of Diversity & Inclusion, and I look forward to working with you on this initiative in the year ahead!
Prior to the meeting, we met with firm ambassadors to discuss opportunities for members to get involved in the coming year. Please contact your firm ambassador to make sure you're getting the most from your membership. Contact Kara Kieran at kkieran@mscpaonline.org to learn about your firm's representative.
With the new membership year officially underway, it's also time to renew your dues. Second dues notices were emailed to you earlier this week and are due by May 31. You can renew online here, or call us at 617.556.4000. If you have questions about your membership, please feel free to reach out to Amanda Curtis at acurtis@mscpaonline.org.
To all of our members who are also moms - I wish you a relaxing and a joyful Mother's Day!
