Friday@Five
has arrived!
CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,

Many of you are receiving notices from the Board of Public Accountancy about a June 30 license renewal, which is confusing because the Board voted last month to extend the renewal deadline. Let me explain what's happening and what we're doing about it: During their March meeting, the Board voted to extend the June 30 license renewal and CPE requirement deadlines by 90 days, after the end of the State of Emergency. Since then, there has been an Executive Order stating that only licenses that expire during the State of Emergency will be granted an extension.

The Board's interpretation is that the Executive Order nullified the vote and therefore, there is no extension for CPAs. We were surprised and frustrated with this regulatory reversal and have contacted the Board to share our deep concerns. To read our letter to the Board urging them to uphold its original vote to extend the deadlines, click here. They responded assuring us that they are working on a solution, so we expect an extension will be forthcoming, and we should know more next week. As soon as we have new information, we will notify you.

In the meantime, the Division of Professional Licensure (DPL) is encouraging CPAs to renew before June 30 and to take online CPE where and when available. Several of our spring seminars and conferences are now virtual events using the same speakers scheduled for our live programs, and we offer hundreds of webinars on a variety of topics. Check them out here

Lastly, a new membership year is upon us and dues notices were mailed out earlier this week. You can renew online at mscpaonline.org/renew or by calling us at 617.556.4000. We understand the financial challenges members may be facing right now, so we are offering a payment plan where members can pay dues in three installments. If you'd like to enroll in this program, please email acurtis@mscpaonline.org or call 617.556.4000 before May 31, 2020.

We look forward to working with you in the year ahead. Have a great weekend and be well!

COVID-19 Impact on Peer Review
The MSCPA Peer Review Team recognizes the potential impact of travel restrictions and health concerns due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on upcoming peer review due dates. Our top priority during this time is the health, safety and welfare of firm personnel and peer reviewers. As such, we are operating with an abundance of caution and will consider all factors in advising firms and peer reviewers of the options available to them with regard to upcoming peer review deadlines. The AICPA sent this notice to firms that had due dates prior to July 1, 2020. You can request an extension for your firm's peer review due date by following these instructions or if you have corrective actions or implementation plan due and need an extension please follow these instructions. Please contact Aury Sanchez or Beth Lyons if you have questions.
