CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,
Many of you are still heads down for busy season, but I wanted to highlight a couple of things that are underway.
We’re happy to share that the state and federal filing date for personal returns has been extended to Monday, May 17. The AICPA is still lobbying for additional relief that would include estimates, trusts, etc., and we will work to ensure Massachusetts follows any additional federal action. We will send you alerts as we get important updates and provide in-depth details in our weekly Legislative Brief.
While you are in your busy season, we are getting ready for our new membership year, starting on May 1, and reflecting on what we accomplished together last year to help members through these turbulent times, including:
- Providing 15 hours of complimentary, relevant and timely CPE. We will soon launch a
new CPE PLUS offering featuring over 20 hours of free learning for members.
- 6,000 HUB posts and 6,000 members using the HUB. We also launched
new members-only roundtables to connect with peers for free.
- Successfully advocating for short-term pandemic-related relief,
including securing an essential service designation and extensions of several tax filing deadlines and the CPE and license renewal date. We also championed long-term governing changes to provide for firm mobility, non-CPA leadership
and other important measures to help you prosper in the profession.
- Introducing the
free HR Hotline
and Pooled Employer Plan
so members can set up retirement plans with less red tape and lower costs.
- Switching fun events like
Trivia Night,
the
Fitness Challenge
and our
first-ever 5K walk/run
(happening tomorrow!) to a virtual format to help members find some stress relief.
We look forward to providing even more member value in 2021 as you reinvest in your continued success via your MSCPA membership. Stay tuned for exciting developments in the coming months!
Finally, the killings in Atlanta this week are a sharp reminder of the escalation in violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The MSCPA stands united with our members against racial violence of any kind.
Take care,
Amy Pitter
MSCPA President/CEO
