Friday@Five
has arrived!
CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,

I spoke to over 50 students today from Suffolk University and Bentley University about how the accounting profession has changed, and what they can do now to best prepare to succeed in our industry. This amazing group of young people are part of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), an international honor society for students in accounting, finance and information systems programs. They are talented, motivated and hungry to become the next generation of leaders, and they were eager to learn about how a career in accounting exceeds far beyond the numbers; it's a business of people, technology and solving problems. It was a wonderful, invigorating day, and I am leaving filled with hope for our future. Thank you to our Academic and Career Development team and BAP student presidents for organizing this event, and I look forward to continuing our conversation with this promising group!

Engaging with students early on at events like this is so important for the Society. It leads to building relationships with future CPAs and allows us to bring awareness to them on the various career paths available in this profession. I recently came across this podcast that features an interview with Michael Durant, a first-generation CPA, who discusses why he chose accounting, and how that decision impacted the rest of his family. His story is moving, and I encourage you to listen (start at 14:08).

Stories like Michael's are possible, in part, due to pipeline programs that inspire first-generation accountants to choose careers that are interesting, lucrative and in demand. These programs would not be possible without support from our members, so thank you for your continued support of the Society! To learn more about our pipeline efforts, please click here.

Have a great weekend!
