CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,
With technology rapidly changing how CPAs work and the services they provide, it's imperative for colleges and universities to adapt their curriculum to these changes so they can best prepare future CPAs to enter and succeed in the accounting profession.
Today, 60 leaders in academia, accounting faculty, career services and members of college advisory boards convened at Bentley University for our Educators Conference: Perspectives on a Changing Profession. This bi-annual event fostered important conversations on the technologies disrupting our industry and how those changes affect the skills future CPAs will need to have. We heard from:
- AICPA staff on the
2019 Trends in the Supply of Accounting Graduates and the Demand for Public Accounting Recruits
report and the evolution of the CPA credential;
- Faculty and university leaders regarding the process of integrating technology into their existing accounting curriculum; and
- Local employers and young professionals on the skills firms are looking for to meet industry demands.
It was a wonderful, inspiring event, and I look forward to continuing these important conversations going forward. The MSCPA has developed strong relationships with accounting faculty across the Commonwealth, and we are constantly working with them on the evolving skills CPA firms and accounting departments need. This is one way that the Society is working on your behalf to grow the accounting pipeline with qualified talent. To learn more about our efforts, visit mscpaonline.org/edfoundation.
As always, we welcome your feedback and love to have you involved in the process. If you'd like to learn more or to get involved, please contact Erica DeBiase at edebiase@mscpaonline.org.
Have a great weekend!
