Dear Hannah,
"A lot of managing partners think they have this covered. Trust me...they don't." This is a comment received after our first session last week in our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) series for firm leaders. This program, in partnership with the AICPA and Bentley University's Center for Women and Business, is the Society's response to what we hear from firm leaders all the time. They believe in the business case for diversity and are committed to making changes, but they lack practical
skills for making real change in their organization that will create a truly diverse and inclusive workplace.
This first session focused on unconscious bias and understanding intersectionality to improve firm culture and address macro- and micro-inequities. The facilitators were outstanding, and participants engaged in both large and small group discussions. For me, the most exciting part was that every participant left with action items that they were prepared to implement for themselves and for their firm. Our next session will be in May and we'll get into the sensitive area of "courageous conversations" and conflict style. This should be another game-changing event!
Speaking of game-changers, one of the barriers I constantly hear about on diversity is the lack of applicants. Since 2006, the MSCPA Educational Foundation has given over $1,000,000 in scholarships to highly qualified aspiring college students, many of whom are from underrepresented communities. This year we're upping the stakes by offering two new scholarship categories, a $10,000 platinum scholarship and $5,000 gold scholarship. Please consider supporting this year's drive, as we continue
to have a larger number of applicants than available funds. Donations in any amount make a difference and can go a long way. To learn more about our scholarship program, click here.
Please click here to donate. Alternatively, you can contact Erica DeBiase at 617.303.2403 to make your contribution over the phone or mail a check to the Society, made payable to the MSCPA Educational Foundation.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
Amy Pitter
