CEO Corner
|
Dear Hannah,
With the end of 2018 in sight, many of our members in public accounting are talking about charitable giving with their clients, and it's a complex, yet important topic. Understanding the client's perceptions of these discussions before you meet will help CPAs plan the best way to advise them, which ultimately strengthens the relationship. That is why we have partnered with the Boston Foundation, The Philanthropic Initiative and the Boston Estate Planning Council to present
"The Philanthropy Talk: How Do I Do It & Why Do I Have To?"
on Tuesday, December 11 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.
This free event is open to all members and includes a presentation of key findings from the 2018 U.S. Trust Study of The Philanthropic Conversation: Understanding Advisor Approaches & Client Expectations,
which explores advisors' approaches to philanthropic conversations with their high-net-worth clients, examines clients' perceptions of these discussions and shows trends since this research was last conducted in 2013. The event will take the study's findings as a launching pad for a panel of professional advisors, a donor dialogue and a Q&A session. Breakfast will be provided, and one CPE credit is available. To register for the event, click here.
Also this week we learned that KPMG LLP was awarded the We Are Boston Corporate Leadership award by Mayor Walsh and the Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement! On behalf of the MSCPA, congratulations to everyone at the firm for achieving this important award. Promoting diversity and inclusion in accounting is a major initiative for the Society, and I'm proud of the work KPMG is doing to encourage and embrace diversity in our profession. Congratulations!
Lastly, the MSCPA will be closed next Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. The next issue of Friday@Five will be on Friday, December 1. I wish you all a wonderful holiday!

Last Chance to Take the Massachusetts Taxpayer Behavior Impact Survey!
The MSCPA administers a periodic survey to gauge current and anticipated taxpayer behavior to help the Department of Revenue (DOR) predict monthly revenue collections. Please provide your input on client trends, as a representative sample of all Massachusetts taxpayers. This information will be critical in allowing state officials to better understand the current deficit and to project revenues moving forward. It is important to note that no specific member information will be used for this report.
This poll will close next Tuesday, November 20 at 5:00 p.m.
