CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,

Happy October 16!

With one deadline past us, there are a couple of others coming up that I wanted to remind you of. First and most important, it’s time to vote! Early voting in Massachusetts starts tomorrow and is available by mail and in person to all registered voters. No excuse is required in our state to take part in early voting.

You can get all the info you need on early voting in your city or town here. Of course, regular election day is Tuesday, November 3; all the general information you need can be found here

And I want to recommend another resource to you. I personally got somewhat confused by all the heavy advertising on Question 1, Expanding the Right to Repair Law. Our friend Evan Horowitz of the nonpartisan Center for State Policy Analysis at Tufts University has put out a report that I found helpful, and I hope you will too.

Another date to keep in mind this month is October 31, which is the deadline for early registration for your .cpa domain. Developed by the AICPA and CPA.com, this new domain is in its initial rollout phase, which is designed to permit all firms to claim their existing online branding under the new domain. After October 31, remaining domain names can be applied for by licensed firms on a rolling basis, so make sure to reserve your domain before the deadline. Individually licensed CPAs can apply for their preferred names starting in January 2021, when general availability begins.

To apply for a domain, visit domains.cpa. This website also offers a wealth of resources about .cpa, including a white paper, FAQs and information for the new service.

Lastly, there is a lot going on at the Statehouse with Governor Charlie Baker’s new proposed budget and ever-changing revenue estimates. If you haven’t done so yet, please check out all the info in this week’s MSCPA Legislative Brief

Have a great weekend!
