CEO Corner
|
Dear Hannah,
I was at Stonehill College today visiting with accounting students to discuss our great profession and what it will look like when they start their careers. Our focus was on technology, and how emerging technologies (like blockchain, AI, robotics, etc.) are changing the skills they'll need to succeed (to learn more about these technologies and their impact, join us on November 2). It was a great day, and the excitement these students have about accounting is nothing short of inspiring.
On my ride home, I reflected on why events like this matter. It's so important to engage with students while they're still in school, as it's critical to building a robust pipeline. At the MSCPA, we're focused on raising awareness about accounting to as many students as we can, to both help firms and companies alleviate staffing issues, and to ensure that the profession will continue to thrive in Massachusetts for years to come. It's important to remember that when it comes to fueling the accounting
pipeline with qualified and diverse candidates, the process is a marathon (not a sprint). The work we do is ongoing and often behind-the-scenes, encompassing everything from attending career fairs, to hosting accounting awareness programs for underrepresented populations, to meeting with educators to provide resources they can share with students about careers in accounting – and much, much more. I'm so grateful to our Academic and Career Development team for their efforts in helping us move the needle.
One of the best ways we help students is through our scholarship program. With donations from individuals, firms and companies, we provide scholarships to help deserving students pursue careers in accounting. Thanks to their generosity, we've awarded more than $1,000,000 to students since 2006, yet the level of need has never been greater than it is right now. We are currently seeking contributions, so we can help even more students enter the profession. To donate and to learn more about the scholarship program, click here.
Have a great weekend!
