MSCPA lABOR DAY SALE

MSCPA lABOR DAY SALE

Dear Hannah,

You may have noticed a change on our website - the term “CPE” has been replaced with “Learning and Development.” This was not a change we made casually, rather it reflects a new approach to provide educational offerings that are customized, relevant and cost effective, and help your business thrive.

Based on your feedback, we are developing our on-site offerings, where courses are customized for and delivered to your business, so you can train a single team, department or everyone in your organization. With this option, teams learn from real-word, goal-specific examples based on their unique needs. You provide the space, and we’ll take care of everything else. Many of the topics center on “soft skills” to help your team deepen their business, communication and leadership skills – essential abilities they need to grow your business and succeed in their careers.

We are also working to ensure that our material is curated, searchable and reflects the ways our members like to learn. To make our offerings more cost effective, we recently partnered with the Workforce Training Fund’s Express Fund, so companies with fewer than 100 employees can train two employees for the price of one! To find out if you qualify, contact Julia Ekelund.

Most importantly, we want to proactively work with you to identify your needs. Our ERISA Conference this spring came directly from member suggestions – and it was a huge success. We rely on your feedback, so please contact Julia or me to let us know how we can improve your learning experience.

I look forward to continuing the journey with you! For information about all of our learning and development opportunities, please visit our website.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU: Take Our Revenue Analysis Survey!

The MSCPA launched a survey earlier this year to gage current and anticipated taxpayer behavior in an effort to assist the DOR in better predicting monthly revenue collections. Thanks to many of you, our first edition was a success. Please help us again!

Spring Amnesty Pulls $136 Million in Unpaid Taxes
The DOR announced this week that the state collected $136.8 million in unpaid taxes during the latest amnesty program held during April and May of this year, $36.8 million more than anticipated. Of the money collected, roughly $73 million came from individuals who had not field their tax returns, and over $54 million came from those who previously under-reported their tax liability.

August Revenue Collections Total $1.737 Billion
August collections totaled $1.737 billion, $42 million below the monthly benchmark. Individual tax, witholdings and sales and use tax all contributed less than anticipated revenues. Two months into the fiscal year, year-to-date collections are running $36 million behind.
