Dear Hannah,
Advocating on your behalf is at the heart of our Society. We travel to Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill to ensure that the accounting community has an impact on public policy, particularly with those issues affecting the profession and economic vitality of the Commonwealth. Our efforts are ongoing, and you can read about our recent legislative efforts that impact you in the August issue of The Capitol Account.
Speaking of advocacy, I wanted to share an update on our efforts with the DOR. Earlier this month, we sent a letter to Commissioner Harding, urging him to take action and publicly admit the DOR’s failures last tax season. The response has been mixed; the DOR responded with a letter that began to acknowledge their filing season problems, but the letter didn’t go far enough to fully recognize the issues. However, Commissioner Harding and I also met, and he expressed his commitment to making changes that would lead to an improved filing season next year. We are continuing to fight for you, and I will keep you informed on details as they are finalized. In the meantime, please reach out to Zach Donah at zdonah@mscpaonline.org if you are experiencing issues with the DOR.
As summer comes to an end, I wish you all a wonderful Labor Day weekend and fall season!
Have a great weekend!
MSCPA President/CEO
