CEO CORNER
Dear Hannah,
Three weeks into the fiscal
year, the Commonwealth finally has a budget. Earlier this week, Governor Charlie Baker signed the FY 2018 budget after vetoing line-items and earmarks
to reduce overall state spending. The Governor also returned the legislature’s health insurance assessment proposal,
calling for additional provisions to
reduce costs in the MassHealth system. In the coming weeks, the Legislature will need to decide which
items to override and how to address healthcare reforms. We will keep you posted on those developments.
The Society is happy to report that due to our efforts, the budget does not include a
Senate-sponsored proposal to extend access to tax returns to the State Auditor’s Office. The Society successfully led a
coalition to fight the proposal during the conference committee’s
deliberations. Have a great weekend!
