Dear Hannah,
I keep learning that the “family feel” of the MSCPA not only includes our incredible staff, but
also extends throughout Massachusetts to our 11,000 wonderful members. Two examples really brought it home this week. The first is Stu Benton,
CPA, CGMA, our former board chair and member of our corporate financial professional’s advisory council, won the 2016 Boston
Business Journal’s CFO of the Year Award in the large private company category! Stu is the President and CEO of Bradford Soap – he
was the company’s Chief Financial Officer for five years before being named to his new position in May.
This prestigious award recognizes Chief Financial Officers who, through their
strong business experiences, strategic direction and market knowledge, have made a difference in their organizations and in the profession while
managing daily financial operations. Stu was nominated by RSM, another great supporter of the Society. RSM praised Stu’s professionalism,
performance, leadership, depth of experience and expertise.
After the announcement, emails spread like wildfire in our office, complete with “woo-hoo” and “yay Stu!” We
treated this like it was a success of a family member because, in many ways, it was!
The second example was a note we received in response to a birthday card we sent to a member. He wrote “Hi
– thank you to all at the Mass Society – I turned 80 years old today – it’s only the blink of an eye from when I became a CPA
in 1966 – 50 of my 80 years as a CPA – so much to be thankful for – especially the privilege of being a member of a great and
honored society – John.” It is likewise a privilege for me to be a member of this community, and I’m so honored that you’re
part of our “family.” Have a great
weekend!
