Dear Hannah,
I am thrilled to announce the launch of The HUB, an online community exclusively for our members. It’s
been exciting to see such lively discussions on there this week and I hope you will continue the conversation!
This platform will also help us communicate more dynamically with our members by
responding more quickly to your needs and receiving your input on critical professional issues. We’ll be able to plan events, CPE programs and
share content based on your feedback. I’ll
be blogging on the HUB as well – Click here to find out why
CAMP matters. I hope you all have a wonderful
holiday weekend – Happy 4th!

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Massachusetts
Legislature Approves FY 17 Budget Amid declining tax revenues, the Massachusetts House
and Senate approved the Fiscal Year 2017 Conference Committee report on Thursday, the final day of Fiscal Year 2016. The proposal limits spending
growth to just 2.6% and relies on the assumption that the Commonwealth will not meet the economic thresholds to trigger a reduction in the state
income tax, saving an estimated $80 million. Notably, the bill also omits the Senate’s proposal to expand access to tax return information to
the Inspector General’s office, a proposal the MSCPA lobbied aggressively against (See opposition letter here).
Massachusetts House Passes Bill Limiting Non-Compete Agreements
Under the proposal passed unanimously by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, most non-compete agreements would be restricted to one
year and would be unenforceable on minimum wage workers, college students and employees 18 years old or younger. The plan also includes a limited
“garden leave clause” that, in some cases, would guarantee a worker who left a job half of their salary for the duration of the restricted
period.
