Dear Hannah,
Some of the most important work the Society does is to advocate for our members, at both the state and national levels. Much of this work is done behind the scenes, but we rely on member feedback to help us navigate the issues. Two matters recently came to our attention, which I’d like to share with you to get your feedback.
You may have heard that the AICPA recently decided to make the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential available to non-CPAs. The AICPA’s position is that there is a greater demand for business valuation services, and non-CPAs can fill that need with training from the AICPA. However, this decision has been upsetting for many CPAs. A group of CPAs wrote an open letter to the AICPA expressing their concern and challenging their decision. You can read the letter here. I’ve been talking with CEOs at other state societies, and we are formulating our response to the AICPA. I’d love to hear your feedback, as it will help the MSCPA determine our position. Please contact me at apitter@mscpaonline.org with your thoughts. I also encourage you to share your feedback in this survey, which was developed by CPAs to get input on this matter.
We’ve also been hearing from members who are unable to get in touch with the Board of Public Accountancy during this critical reporting time. Please know that we share your frustrations, and we understand this level of service is unacceptable. The Society has contacts at the Board who we are working with on this matter, and we will continue to escalate the issue until it is resolved. If you are experiencing any issues getting in touch with the Board, please contact Zach Donah at zdonah@mscpaonline.org or me, and we will make sure you receive a response.
Lastly, the Society’s office will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 for Independence Day.
Have a wonderful holiday!
Amy Pitter

BoPA Requiring Electronic Applications, Renewals |
|
The Board of Public Accountancy (BoPA) is going paperless. Beginning in June 2018, licensees will be required to renew or apply for a CPA license online via the Division of Professional Licensure’s (DPL) new ePLACE portal. Firms will also be required to apply for and renew their licenses through the portal. Paper renewal notices will continue to be mailed to the address on file with the board. The notice will include a 10-digit authorization code that will allow you to link your license to your ePLACE account.
For instructions on how to create an ePLACE account, click here. For more information on the transition to the online system, click here. |
