Dear Hannah, “The business
case for a more diverse and inclusive profession is gaining more strength each day, and we need to be sure we are focused on a strategy that will
bring a more diverse workforce to our profession and to our firms and businesses.” – Rich Caturano
This morning I had the great pleasure of discussing the importance of
diversity in accounting at our “Best Practices in Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Workforce” breakfast, which was hosted by PwC at
their beautiful Seaport office. Firm leaders from
across the state examined ways to create an inclusive work environment and recruit employees from various backgrounds and cultures. The discussion was
moderated by Rich Caturano, National Leader of Culture, Diversity and Inclusion at RSM, and featured a panel of diversity experts who gave practical
advice on how firms can increase diversity. Some of the highlights include:
• The power of partnering with professional associations such as NABA, ALPFA and Ascend;
• The importance of mentorship and sponsorship by professionals in a position of
influence, regardless of ethnicity; • The necessity of being intentional in
your efforts to increase diversity and inclusion; and • The commitment to
diversity starts at the top and must cascade to all levels of the organization.
This breakfast is the second in a series of MSCPA events geared to help you become a firm of the future. If you’d
like to find out about our next event, please contact me at apitter@mscpaonline.org.
The MSCPA supports diversity and inclusion for everyone, both in and
out of the workplace. We join in praying for everyone impacted by the unthinkable violence that unfolded in Orlando. Our condolences go out to the
family, friends and colleagues of the victims.
Have a great weekend!
