Dear Hannah,
Many members are asking when the IRS will issue guidance on the new Internal Revenue Code section 199A. It’s one of the most-asked about topics at our events this spring. According to IRS Commissioner David Kautter, guidance is coming in the next few weeks. Kautter also said the IRS is trying to hit the key points with the proposed regulations (implying they will not address many of the less-urgent points in the initial guidance). He noted that the proposed regulations will likely include general rules, aggregation rules, anti-abuse rules and the definition of specified services.
The AICPA has offered suggestions on guidance to the IRS, including identifying six top priorities for qualified business income (QBI) guidance and suggestions for how the guidance should be written. For more information, please click here.
The MSCPA understands how important this area of the law is to our members, and we will keep you informed on any developments. Tax reform implementation issues are going to be with us for a long time, and the MSCPA is offering several courses to help keep you informed on its impacts. For our list of offerings, please click here.
Have a great weekend!
