CEO CORNER

Dear Hannah,

What a week it’s been! Earlier this week I traveled to (a very hot and sunny) Tucson for the AICPA’s Spring Council Meeting. The themes and the message were clear: robotics, AI and Blockchain are no longer on the horizon; they are here and already having major impacts on everything from college curricula to firm business models. The audit of the future is also on its way with changes required to technology, methodology, standards and skills. I just had an article published in the BBJ on these changes impacting our profession, and I will keep you informed on new developments and what they mean to you.

Another topic of discussion at Council was the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which went into effect today. This new regulation is significantly altering the definition of privacy and personal data, and accounting firms and companies must be informed on its impacts, so they can comply with the changes.
For more information on what this means to you, click here

With privacy issues at the forefront, you should know about
a new phishing email scam where cybercriminals pose as professional associations (like the MSCPA) to trick members into disclosing their email usernames and passwords. Please note that the MSCPA will never request this information from you in an email. If you receive an email like this, please delete it and contact us at 617.556.4000.

Lastly, membership renewals are due by next Thursday, May 31. If you have not renewed yet, you will receive an email from us next week with a link to
pay your dues. I look forward to serving you in the year ahead!

As we enter Memorial Day weekend, let’s remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize and thank those who actively protect our country. I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend with your families and friends.
