CEO CORNER
Dear
Hannah,
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of
attending the Believers & Achievers Recognition Reception where we awarded over $125,000 in scholarships to 50 deserving students. These young
people are the future of the accounting profession, and many face extraordinary adversity to achieve their CPA – and they’re so grateful
for our support. We also recognized the 2017 Outstanding Educator of the Year, William Driscoll, CPA of Suffolk University and the four Elijah
Watt Sells Award winners who earned a cumulative average score above 95.5 across all sections of the CPA Exam on their first try – Anthony
DePiano (RSM), James Scott Deuschle (PwC), Madeline Hartman (Grant Thornton) and Olivia Spooner (RSM).
It was an honor to celebrate these incredible people. Thank you to our sponsors Isenberg School
of Management and Deloitte, the MSCPA Educational Foundation and our scholarship donors who gave generously to make this event possible!
Five of these scholarships were “Women in
Accounting Scholarships” funded through our Women’s Golf
Outing and Golf Clinic, which will take place on June 13 at
Juniper Hills Golf Course. I hope to see many of you on the course!
Have a great weekend!

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy Regulation
Changes Take Effect Today
Several changes to the rules and regulations governing the accounting profession, approved by the Massachusetts Board of
Public Accountancy last year, will take effect today, Friday, May 19. The MSCPA was intimately involved in the process and, thanks to many of you,
pushed for several changes to make the profession more accessible, while maintaining critical public protection components. Once approved, the new
regulations will update Exam requirements, college credit transferability, licensing criteria and CPE credit segmentation.
Apply or Renew Your License Online You can now apply for or renew your CPA license online! The new system,
ePLACE, allows aspiring and current licensees to electronically apply for and renew their certifications. Firms are also eligible to apply for and
renew their licenses through the portal.
