Dear Hannah: Many of you know
of the great work that the MSCPA Academic and Career Development team does to fuel the pipeline, including our scholarship program, career fairs,
coaching and mentoring and our recent Educator’s Conference. What you might not know is that this outreach begins even before college, with four
annual conferences for high school students.
One of our conferences was held last week at Suffolk University. The “Is Accounting for Me?” conference provided 25 students from four
different schools with the opportunity to preview careers in accounting, partake in interactive workshops and network with college students, faculty
and CPA practitioners. You can read more about the event here.
It was a great day, and the students left the event excited by what they learned.
But, we haven’t forgotten about our college students. “The Next Step” workshop, held at PwC on
April 6, featured three panel discussions, giving college students an opportunity to hear from CPAs in various industries, ask questions and learn
from a panel of young accountants about their first year in the profession. The evening ended with a networking session, allowing the 40 students in
attendance to interact with the panelists and learn more about the profession.
Our next conference will be on April 28 at UMass Amherst, and we are integrating community colleges into the program. We
are looking for panelists and professionals to join us for a networking lunch. If you’re interested, please contact Barbara Iannoni at biannoni@mscpaonline.org. Who knows, your best future employee might be there!
