Dear Hannah,
Our annual staff retreat was held on Tuesday at Boston’s UMass Club. The day was a healthy mix of goal setting for the upcoming membership year, discussions of our internal processes and team building. Diversity and inclusion was a focus at the retreat, and as February is Black History Month, I wanted to share with you some of our plans for the year ahead.
Increasing diversity within the accounting profession is a major focus at the Society, and on Tuesday we brainstormed ideas for how we can do more to support the profession and our firms in this area. In addition to continuing with our scholarship campaign, this year we want to help firms improve their inclusion efforts, so firms retain the best and brightest minority staff. We are considering a few different pilot programs, so stay tuned for more information! If you have ideas for ways we can help increase your firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts, please feel free to contact me at apitter@mscpaonline.org. Remember: diversity is being invited to the party, but inclusion is being asked to dance.
Another highlight of the day was a visit from our Chair-Elect Mark Nichols, CPA, MBA, MST who stopped by on his way back from this week's Tax Tuesday segment on NECN. Thank you, Mark and great job on-air!
Have a great weekend!
