Dear Hannah,
I just returned from the AICPA Fall Council Meeting and the emphasis was very much on change and disruption to the profession, both of which are coming to us at lightning speed. Need proof? One of the top three global companies already using bot technology is a Big Four accounting firm. For middle market firms, 73% expect to experience disruption in the next three years. And by the end of 2018, banks are expecting to rely on blockchain for 100% of transactions.
As a profession, our defining characteristics are trust, integrity and understanding the language of business. Given this disruption, the $64 million question is – how will we build on these characteristics to change our business model?
The AICPA’s President and CEO Barry Melancon, who has spent years researching these disruptors, shared his unique perspective at our meeting. Click on the video below for a recap from the MSCPA’s Chair-Elect, Mark Nichols, CPA, MBA, MST. You can also hear Barry’s insights at this event in Boston next Thursday – I hope to see you there!
Have a great weekend!
