Real results” increases awareness of the value of CPAs through a series of digital messages and videos that will run on social media from February 6 through April 17. The videos drive consumers to the Find a CPA Directory. If you are not currently in the Directory, you can sign up at mscpaonline.org/joinfindcpa.

MSCPA members can access ALL resources of this campaign, and use them for your own marketing efforts. Help spread the word by posting on your website, sharing on your social media and showing to potential and current clients – the possibilities are endless! You have free access to:

Outstanding Accounting Educator Award
Would you like to honor an accounting professor for his/her teaching excellence and success in motivating students? The MSCPA's Annual Outstanding Accounting Educator Award is designed to recognize full-time accounting faculty who are actively involved in the accounting profession and the Society. The winner will receive an award of $1,000 to further his/her professional development and a matching gift will be given to the college's accounting department in their honor. Deadline: April 1, 2017.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Governor Baker Files FY 18 Budget
Governor Charlie Baker has filed his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2018. The 40.5 billion budget contains several noteworthy provisions, including an assessment on certain employers to assist in covering expanding Medicaid costs, a framework for taxing short-term rentals and a $2,000 tax credit for companies that hire veterans.

Board of Public Accountancy Issues Marijuana Guidance
The Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy (BoPA) has voted to approve guidance for CPAs engaged with recreational and/or medical marijuana dispensaries. Based on the guidance, so long as a licensee is complying with state law, the Board will take no action against the licensee. The guidance does warn that marijuana is still considered possession and that use of the substance remains illegal under federal law and the Board holds the right to revoke the license of a CPA who is convicted of a federal crime.
