Dear Elizabeth,
Do you like your information the old fashioned way - ink on paper, or do you prefer
digital? Either way, we have you covered with SumNews! The
July issue has something for everyone with a great article by Jason Zorfas, Brian Marks and Gregory Devlin from EY on how to work with the DOR on
voluntary disclosure agreements, an interview with economist Mike Goodman on what the future holds for small businesses in Massachusetts, a spotlight
on our Board Chairman Carla McCall, information on the top five challenges for accounting firms and everything you need to know about the revised
fiduciary rule. Plus, updates on what’s happening in our member firms and great pictures from the Young Professional After Tax Season Bash and
our Annual Meeting. I also wrote an article the MSCPA’s efforts to introduce accounting into the STEM curriculum in our local middle schools and
high schools. You can read about it here, or check out my latest blog post in The HUB.
Happy summer reading and have a great
weekend!

Legislation In a letter to House Speaker Robert DeLeo, MSCPA President & CEO Amy Pitter
warned against including in an upcoming bill addressing pay equity language from prohibiting an employer from asking the current salary of a
prospective employee and urge caution when evaluating what determines equal work. The letter also suggests broadening the scope of initiatives
employers can use to achieve pay equity. The House is slated to debate their version of the bill next week.
