Dear Elizabeth: I am writing to you from Interchange, an annual conference for the staff in state CPA societies from around the country (and Canada). There
were CPE tracks, communication and marketing tracks, government relations tracks and general sessions. It was all focused on how state societies can
improve what we do every day to increase the value we offer to you. We were encouraged to think big - We live in a time of enormous change. The
profession is changing, accountants don't all work in public accounting firms and people who work in public accounting firms are not all accountants.
Increasingly, private businesses grow their own financial teams and don't care if they are not certified.
One of our strategic plan goals is to increase Society strength. To do that, we need to do
some soul searching about how the Society needs to change in response to how the profession is changing. Do we have meaningful services to offer to
folks in corporate finance who are not CPAs? What about consultants at the big 4 and other large firms?
For me personally, this has been a very motivating and exhilarating time to think and learn, and
I look forward to using what I've learned to improve the value we provide to each of our members. Amy A. Pitter
