CEO Corner
|
Dear INSERT_FIRST_NAME,
I just returned from AICPA’s Spring Council meeting where representatives from every state came together to discuss hot topics in the profession and our path forward. AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, spent the bulk of his presentation recapping what’s been called the “most brutal tax season ever.” You can watch Barry’s presentation here and register (for free) for his Professional Issues Update for MassCPAs on June 7.
There is significant stress in the profession right now. This is due to severe staffing shortages that are happening while services are expanding, as clients are depending on their CPA to advise them on all areas of their business. Computer Accounting Services (CAS) is the fastest growing service, and firms should keep their eyes open for opportunities in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), System and Organization Controls (SOC) and blockchain.
This is not only relevant for those looking to expand their practices, but also for young professionals who want to get an edge over their competition and accelerate their career growth. MassCPAs will help members in these areas, and we will update you on our offerings. In the meantime, check out this article on “The Rise of ESG and the Accountant,” and please feel free to reach out to me with ideas for ways we can help you.
Lastly, as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice this Memorial Day, I would be remiss to not also acknowledge the horrific, deadly shooting that took place on Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, friends, school staff and loved ones. It is not enough, but as we unravel what happened, I hope we can come together to find pragmatic solutions that foster a safer environment for our children and communities.
Amy Pitter
