CEO Corner |
Dear INSERT_FIRST_NAME,
Last week, I met with business leaders across New England to share ideas around advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. What stood out to me was that ALL staff benefit from an inclusive environment – and it starts with communication from leadership. Inclusion won’t happen without trust, and these two things must happen to build trust:
- Open communication from the top
- A feeling of connection between staff and their leaders
More executives are surveying their teams to identify where there’s a perception gap, and this is even more important as we look for ways to maintain culture, especially in remote work environments. For example, leaders are surveying their staff to find out if they are approachable. Having a baseline will help leaders develop solutions to address discrepancies, so they can start to build trust within their teams.
We can achieve far more together than we can alone, and our profession must work together to make accounting a desirable and inclusive career for all. I will keep you updated on our efforts and how members can get involved. In the meantime, here are four resources available to you right now:
- Free CPE sessions on The Power of Allyship and Creating an Inclusive Work Environment through Difficult Conversations through our partnership with The Diversity Movement
- Customized DEI trainings for your team – reach out to Julia Ekelund for details
- Downloadable resources from The Diversity Movement to learn best practices on inclusivity and its impact on your community and workplace
- See what some of our member firms are doing to create inclusive environments
I look forward to sharing more updates with you soon. Have a great weekend!
